1949
For 39 years Howard Rogers, the longest tenured Dockmaster in Club history, kindly provided assistance to anyone venturing around the docks of Bay Head Yacht Club. From rowing racing marks into place and inspecting pilings to teaching children seamanship and dispensing homespun philosophy, Howard was our very own "Barnegat Bay Pirate". At the time of his passing on September 22, 1949 the Board of Trustees noted that "the only act of piracy he ever committed was to capture the love and affection of all who came to know him". Howard meant a great deal to the Club. His portrait occupies a place of honor within the clubhouse where he is enshrined forever.
