About the Speakers 

Paul Cayard

Paul Cayard is the Executive Director of the US Sailing Olympic Team. He is a seven-time world champion, seven-time America's Cup competitor, and was the first American to win the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1998. He is a two-time Olympian, in 1984 and 2004, and is one of the very few who has competed at the top level in these three diverse disciplines within the sport of sailing. Cayard remains active in racing scene in the Star class, most recently winning the Star Western Hemisphere in 2021. His accolades include induction to the National Sailing Hall of Fame in 2011, Rolex Yachtsman of the Year in 1998, and Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2021. He grew up and currently resides in San Francisco and is a member of the St. Francis Yacht Club. 

 

Alan Ostfield

Alan Ostfield is the Chief Executive Officer of US Sailing, the National Governing Body for the sport of sailing. Previously, Ostfield's extensive professional resume includes his time as President, North Atlantic | New York & Philadelphia for Live Nation, President & Chief Executive Officer of the Detroit Pistons and Palace Sports & Entertainment, Senior Vice President & General Counsel of the San Diego Padres, and attorney with Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C.

 Combining his experiences in professional sports with higher education, Ostfield developed and taught "Professional Sports Leagues and Franchises" in Columbia University's Sports Management Masters Program and "Managing a Professional Sports Franchise" in the University of Michigan's Sports Management Masters Program. Ostfield's achievements were recognized nationally in 2000, 2001 and 2002 on Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal's annual "Forty Under 40" list, culminating in Street & Smith inducting him into its Forty Under 40 Hall of Fame in 2002.
