Jason Lutz has been a sailing coach at BHYC since 2011. He spent five years coaching both the Opti and 420 race groups in the junior program before being elevated to Sailing Pro in 2017. As Sailing Pro, Jason has been integral to the operations of the overall sailing experience at BHYC, including organizing Tech Dinghy evening racing for all ages, overseeing the Women on the Water program, and implementing new ideas into BHYC's program. He has been an asset to the Club for race management as well, regularly assisting with Club races, BBYRA regattas, and BHYC-hosted regional and national events.
An alumnus of the College of Charleston, Jason is the head varsity sailing coach at Christian Brothers Academy, one of the oldest and most successful high school sailing programs in New Jersey. His CBA teams have won multiple state and league championships, while qualifying for both the doublehanded and singlehanded national championships. He serves as the assistant director of the New Jersey Interscholastic Sailing Association (NJISA) and is a representative on the Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) national board.
Having grown up on the Barnegat Bay as a member of Metedeconk River Yacht Club, Jason remains an avid sailor in both the Lightning and J70 national classes, frequently racing with his father, uncle, and younger brother.
